OmLotta med dolt kantband

About Lotta with hidden binding

For those of you who are keen to sew an OmLotta in jersey, Kristin on the Instagram account @kikkis.syhorna has tested sewing several OmLottas in stretch fabrics such as jersey. She has found a method that gives the same appearance on the outside, but holds the neckline together better than if you sew with a lining. A pattern hack of hidden edging, which she is happy to share with you. The method is suitable for when you want to sew the dress in stretchy fabrics.

Where step 4a in the original instructions takes over, you start with Kristin's tutorial. Once you have completed the steps below and got the edging in place, continue with step 5a in the sewing manual again. //Sofie

Step 1: Replace the facing

Cut out a strip of fabric, from the same fabric that you have sewn the rest of the blouse/dress in, that is 85% of the entire neckline, 3 cm wide. To calculate 85% of the width, take the entire neckline measurement x 0.85. Divide and distribute the strip evenly around, right side to right side, just like you would sew a regular edging. I sew on an overlock with a 1 cm seam allowance (but it works just as well to sew with an elastic stitch, such as a zigzag, on a regular household machine). Then press the seam allowance upwards away from the waist.

Step 2: Fold the binding

Now fold the hem into place, which is done in two steps. Fold over the strip, just like you would with a regular binding. Then fold the entire binding to the inside of the garment. Press!

Step 3: Sew the hidden binding in place

Then sew the binding with a straight stitch (stitch length 4) along the entire neckline about 1 cm from the edge. Now your hidden binding is complete and you can return to the regular sewing instructions.
