How to turn the Lotta dress into an A-line silhouette
Share
Carolina, from the Instagram account @clldesign84, has sewn several Lotta dresses — but this time she gave it a twist. Instead of sewing a separate bodice and skirt, she created a flowing A-line dress. And do you know the best part? It’s super easy for you to do the same!
How long do you want your dress to be?
Start by measuring the total desired length of your dress, from the top of the shoulder down to where you want the hem to fall. Keep in mind that if you choose to add a ruffle at the bottom, it will extend the length. Carolina’s version measures 94 cm without the ruffle.
Modify the bodice
Use the bodice and the measurements from the narrow ruffle skirt (the top tier) as your starting point. Measure from the shoulder to your chosen dress length (this is marked as the pink arrow in the illustration). At the hem, mark the same width as the narrow ruffle skirt, then draw a line from that point up to the bodice to connect the two shapes.
If done correctly, your new front piece should look like the one shown on the right in the illustration. Repeat the same process for the back piece.

Carolina also shortened the second ruffle. Use the same width as in the original sewing instructions, but reduce the height to 20 cm.

And how gorgeous did it turn out? If you want a more defined waist, you can easily add a tie belt.
